Bandera: The Cowboy Capital of the World

OST: The best restaurant in town

Between San Antonio and Austin is a nice drive on Highway 16 that goes through small, historic towns. Our favorite of these towns is the self-proclaimed ‘Cowboy Capital of the World’: Bandera. Even more than the name, I think what excited me most is that they have a restaurant that is known for it’s chicken fried steak. And I certainly couldn’t take Stella on a tour of the south without feeding her properly.

Dining at OST

OST, which stands for Old Spanish Trail, is the restaurant to eat at in Bandera. Just check the reviews online- people love their chicken fried steak (and they have saddle barstools!). Stella and I split the chicken fried steak because it looked so massive (and it was) but was oh so delicous.

Around Town:

As much as we loved the charm and food of this small town, I think we were equally impressed with the hospitality. One shop owner eagerly told us about Paris Hilton and The Simple Life 2‘s visit. The lady at the Chamber of Commerce called the Tourism Office just down the street to find out if there was a ‘Cowboy Capital of the World’ sign around town that we could photograph.

Along with Cadillac Ranch, this place was one of my favorite stops in Texas!
